Book Description: One cannot help wondering what is not quite right about Julian Faulhaber’s photographs – the proportions are too perfect, the facades too pristine. Yet these are not studio shots subsequently processed at a computer, but real rooms and scenarios like those we move in every day or encounter through the media. The photographer is interested in new buildings, which he visits several times during the construction phase and then photographs shortly before they are commissioned for public use. The result: carefully orchestrated, ideal architectures and design objects, like those employed today to define the appearance of cities. They find their equivalent in Faulhaber’s perfectly composed images. It is precisely the absence of traces that says something about the rooms, namely that they are not created for use alone, but above all for show purposes. Julian Faulhaber deconstructs both the rules of architecture and photography by showing how the two conspire in fashioning a reality that manages very well without people. (Stephanie Bunk)
