Daniel Shea has been working on a new series of photographs and sculptures that examine the mythologies and histories surrounding the post-industrial ruin. In conjunction with Columbia College Chicago’s Digital Artist in Residence, Daniel will be publishing his first monograph in the summer of 2012. Combining original photographic works made over the past year with appropriated and original texts, the book will explore the complicated history of one Midwestern town.

Book To Come: The Present Perfect by Agata Grzaba

The book will consist of the photographs combined with the verbs conjugated in the Present Perfect Tense, which together reveal the context. We use the Present Perfect to say that something has happened or to state that we are still waiting for something to happen. I was trying to capture the last instant before the change occured. The moment of awaiting, when the remains of the past events have become fuzzy and the new ones have not appeared yet.

The Present Perfect describes some experiences or is used to admit that you have never had a certain experience. It means, that you can find this series of photographs as a sequence of experiences, or a sequence of expectations… or anything comfortable according to your perception. The freedom of interpretation comes first.
