Pictures of great sentimental value that gain their quality through the personal experiences they are connected to and not through form or content. It is not about your best or most distinguished pictures, but about your personal favorites. Since all this has nothing to do with an artistic or commerical career as a photographer, everyone is invited to take part in the project.
In this issue of romka magazine, 69 professionals and amateurs from 33 countries share their photographic treasures and tell the stories behind them. For the first time, there are two special features as well: an illustrated short story by American author Paul Kwiatkowski and a collection of found photographs by London-based artist Steven Chandler.

I come from Essen, a town nobody seems to have heard of. The deal in this city is that we have a big drug and party scene because we are minutes from the Dutch border. Everybody runs crazy, much more than in the big citys. I  raised there and documented this over 5 years, night per night. There was only my small film camera in the whole city and not 15 dslr´s on every party like in New York where I live now. After a while nobody noticed my camera anymore. I know everybody that I shoot so there is a personal relationship with this work. Right now i’m working on a small selfpublished zine about the 5 years. maybe it´s my way to say goodbye and close this theme and topic. I plan to start a new documentation about another totally different life here in New York City.

Description of book: Love Zine created by photographer Marc Alain is the first of an ongoing series inspired by and exploring ideas on love. Although created by a photographer the zine features no photographs by the artist himself, rather 13 intricate hand-made heart collages culminated from over a years worth of cutting old magazines and print outs, taking advantage of wasted time commuting on the New York City Subway. The cutouts are then arranged, glued and scanned for the zine. Additionally the zine features drawings, found photographs, music lyrics, and poems.
