Book description:The catalogue Displacements is published on the occasion of Samuel Henne's solo exhibition of the same name at Kunstverein Hildesheim. In his recent works, the artist deals with different forms of museum displays and cabinets and the underlying strategies of archiving and visual recording of sculptures in historical and archaeological contexts. Using and referencing photographic material from museum archives in subjective, personal and yet conceptual and strategic ways, Henne examines key aspects of the (re-)presentation of sculpture and its transformation into an image. Forming, constructing and constituting autonomous images and image-objects with distinctive esthetics Henne intertwines formal aspects with art history and a contemporary approach to image production in general.
